CCJ   Health & Well-being  2008-9

At the very end of 2007, just after becoming Sports School of the year we were awarded Healthy School status. To get this you have to demonstrate that the school is achieving high standards in 4 areas:
  • Personal-Social-Health education
  • Healthy Eating,
  • Physical activity
  • Emotional Health and wellbeing (including bullying).

Of course there is still more we can do and this year we want to focus on involving parents with updating Sex-relationships and drugs education policies and working with children to really develop our outside environment for play and learning.

However this award is a recognition of a lot of work that has been done in the past few years by staff, kitchen staff, governors, children and parents. so......

Well Done everyone!

Comment, Sept ember 2008:
    Year  2 to 3 transfer

Each year nearly every one of the 75 children in Year 2 at the Infants  transfer to Year 3 here, there are always a few who leave the area. Talking to children and parents, it seems that all the work both schools  did in the summer to make the transition process fun and confidence building for the children really has  paid off. This is what some Yr 3 say………..
“I had buterflis and now ther gon.”
“When I moved to the juniors I liked my teacher and the dinrs.”
“I think it’s cool because you have a libriy”.
“I was a little bit scerde now I am not”.
“It’s been absolutely fine. I’m still not sure about star of the day because we didn’t have it in the infants”.
“I like it [but] I mis playtime in the afternoon”.
I like ths scol bekus it has a big fid [field] and it is fun”.

Comments:

1. Don’t worry! All Year 3 teachers have just received the government’s latest training on teaching phonics and spelling (very useful they said it was too!)

2. To paraphrase one parent’s comment last night ,‘It’s right that parents are confident to come forward when they or their children have concerns and issues, but its nice to balance this with positive comments when everything is going really well.’

So, many thanks to all parents who went out of their way to  give really positive feedback to teachers and to the Headteacher, about how all the work that everyone is doing in the school is translating into happy and ‘achieving’ children.

Healthy Playtime Fun. Autumn 2008

The outdoor gym equipment kindly donated by www.funoutdoorgyms.com is incredibly popular with the children.
We have securely bolted them to old railway sleepers.

Anti-Bullying Week November 2008

Working with 10 Student Teachers in the school, the School Council have took the lead in making sure that each class in the school discusses the two  ‘themes’ of the week.
  • What to do if you are unhappy in school.

  • Being Different. Belonging together.

At a special assembly  ideas and   presentations from every class were shared. The week ended with the Chair of Governors meeting the School Council to hear directly from them about the week and their thoughts and experiences.
